I always forget just how good The Shore is. So much effort goes into their excellent food, so much thought and careful preparation, and fantastic presentation. I love the fact that in the early evening one can go in and sit in the bar area, the decor of which is old worldy, somewhat maritime themed, but not to a twee extent, with white marble tables. Large wall mirrors, modestly lacking details of old beer and tobacco products, offset the dark wooden walls and give the place a soothing but bright feel.
The more affordable bar snacks like haggis balls and fish and chips tend to be offered consistently and are consistently good, but the real value comes on their ever changing a la carte menu. Every time I've order off their a la carte, I've been blown away by the attention to detail and shear deliciousness of the fare. There tends to be a strong showing of seafood dishes, with a focus tends on carefully delivered combinations of fillet, vegetables and sauces and jus that are not easily forgotten.
You'll often see an amazing pork, ox cheek, duck or guinea fowl dish in there too. I had the pork and apple yesterday which was absolutely outstanding. The combination of this quality with the relaxed attitude of the bar is what really makes The Shore for me. If you want to just pop in for a pint, you can.
I've dined in The Shore several times now and it could be, it may be, my number 1 recommendation in Edinburgh. You know what? It is. -

This place was highly recommended so we made a reservation for lunch on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
The restaurant was beautifully decorated and had a very warm and cozy vibe. Our server greeted us promptly, brought menus and took drink orders.
Complimentary fresh bread and a very tasty green garlic spread was brought to the table for us to enjoy while we waited for our lunch.
I had the Shore Bar Langoustine Soup and Smoked Salmon. Both were extremely delicious, and was happy with my choices. Part way through lunch there was a couple of live jazz musicians playing guitar which was a lovely touch.
The reason for a missing star, was for the lack of attentiveness from the servers. I reeeeally wanted to order a drink about 1/2 was through lunch but we weren't being checked on and I was unable to grab the attention of any of the 3 servers that had previously been by.
However, I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you are in the area. -

Very popular seafood restaurant and bar in Leith that serves nicely prepared seafood with a touch of class. Started with aubergine soup which was more of a creamy bisque that lacked seasoning. The rainbow trout was nicely cooked with jersey royals and a nice sweet corn basil purée. The cod with polenta and caponata was delicious as well. Service is top notch and though it is quite expensive, the quality is very high. Be sure to make a reservation before coming here. Would be back and recommended.

My wife and I walked the Leith Walk from Edinburgh and came across this great place. We ate in the Bar section for lunch and I had a great experience. Nice atmosphere. The service was very friendly from both the barman and server. I had the mussels to start off that was without question the best I've ever had anywhere. ANYWHERE. Served in a creamy soup that was just the best! Nothing this good in New England where I'm from. My wife and I both had the Surf and Turf for our main dish that was excellent as well. I will certainly visit again when I'm back in Scotland.

Friendly staff and an interesting pub to eat at in Leith!
I ordered the Catch of the day (wild bass), and squid with chorizo to start. Both dishes were delicious, the squid was fantastic with chickpeas cooked just right. I loved the fresh greens and mashed pea with the fish, and while it looked like a small portion, I was properly stuffed by the end! Good quality, fresh seafood. There's also outdoor seating for summery days.
